To Us or For Us?

What do you believe? Does God cause bad things to happen, allow bad things to happen or both?

I heard a man speak who had a brain tumor and went through surgery and recovery. He said, “God had to do this to get my attention.” So what I hear is that he believes that God, in fact, does cause (what we perceive as) bad things to happen so he can get our attention.

What about the coronavirus and our economy? I’ve read some Facebook posts and other writings that read as if some people believe that God actually caused this to get our attention.

Is God Getting Our Attention?

Let me ask you a personal question. Do you believe that God killed my boys to get my attention? I haven’t met anyone to this point that said yes. If someone did, I would be very interested in what their perspective is.

What about my wife’s cancer? Did God give that to her to get our attention? What about the near-death of our business back in 2010? Did God cause the recession?

Or did my boys each die as a result of the world we live in? As a result of human accident and decision? Did my wife’s cancer come from a world of pollution? Was it God or me that nearly killed our business in 2010? Is it possible that it is us, the people, that cause recessions? Is it God or us that causes the diseases and other issues we can look back on in our world?

Is it possible that for those of us that believe God is our Heavenly Father, that he has “grounded us to our rooms” for a couple of months? Is it possible that he is using this to clean up the environment and to bring people closer to him?

What I Believe

There was a time when I would have told you what I believe and would have even argued my point with you, but not today. Honestly, I don’t know what the factual truth is, and I’m okay with that.

What I do know and fully believe is that God cares about me, He cares about us, He cares about you. I know that His ways are bigger than my ways, His thoughts are so much bigger than our thoughts. His plans are far beyond my human perspective. So regardless of the answers to these tough questions, I choose to believe that His plans are good, that His plans are the best. I choose to love, honor, trust and follow God, no matter what happens to us on this earth.

What do you believe? Please share with me. Even if you don’t believe in God, I would like to hear from you.

Be safe, be well, be strong. See you next week.
