Life Priorities?

Life can be busy. I’m hearing that many people are finding the good in the COVID-19 situation, as they have more time to spend with the people that are important to them. Some are realizing that they somehow got off track and lost focus on the “people” in their lives.

I have a friend who said, “I got so caught up in providing for my family that I forgot to do things with my family.”

How to Keep Priorities a Priority

So how is it that we get so busy that we let the people that matter most slip away as we live our lives? And a better question: what can we do about it?

When life gets busy, here are some things I do to help me keep my priorities a priority.

  1. Make a list of your life priorities. I have a list that is laminated and hangs on my shower wall. Every day, I stand and read it. This reminds me daily to keep my priorities a priority.
  2. Make yourself a priority. Many people see this as selfish. I think it’s a must. Making this list could be your start. Look at it this way: on an airplane, they tell us that if the oxygen masks fall, put your mask on first before you try and help the person next to you. We need to be breathing air before we help others breathe air.
  3. Find a hobby or something to be passionate about. For me, it’s bass fishing. There aren’t many things that stop my mind from racing but when I’m on the water and focused on those green and brown fish, something happens inside and it is all I’m focused on. That is good for my mind and body. Not to mention, when I do well and accomplish something through this hobby, it makes me feel good about myself. I don’t say this from an ego perspective, I mean it from the opposite. Leading my family and a business can be difficult; life can be difficult. I can get down on myself and focus on my faults and failures. Doing well in fishing builds me up, energizes me and gives me strength to face another day. You know the old saying: “A bad day of fishing is better than a good day at work.” Either way, I win with a hobby and passion for it.
  4. Find something or someone to believe in. No matter your faith, I dare to say, you need a faith. Do I have a faith? I choose to believe in and put my trust in Jesus Christ. But that said, some people may not be ready to ask Him into their life. Some people might not believe that He is who He says He is. So I would say to them, find a faith, find something to believe in, study it and ask yourself if this faith will sustain you through the storms of this life. I have had the privilege to share time with so many different people of different faiths and beliefs. I have learned some things about other religions and beliefs. But my question for anyone when it comes to faith is, “Will this faith, this belief, this religion sustain you and be there for you, no matter what life brings?”

Until Next Time

It’s only a matter of time; the busy life awaits us all. So how will you keep your priorities a priority? Make the list, hang it on the wall, make yourself a priority, spend intentional time on your hobby, search for and find your faith, a faith that works, a God that’s real.

I pray this week brings you peace and joy. Be healthy, be happy and be fantastic!

God bless.
