I want to start by saying that I do realize that some of you are facing giants right now. You have problems that are so big that only God can resolve them. I want you to know that before I turned on this camera, I prayed for you. If you feel comfortable, private message me and I will add you to my prayer list and pray specifically for you and your situation.
Something I’ve learned is not to compare my inside with someone else’s outside. Let me say it this way. If I’m not careful, I can compare how I feel inside with how someone else looks outside. I can fool myself into believing that my problems are bigger than their problems.
‘They’ve Got It Made!’
One example would be a pastor speaking at church. I look over to see his wife or her husband sitting there and I’m like, “They have got it made. I mean, they get to read the word of God every day. That’s their job! I bet their family doesn’t have the big problems my family has. I bet his wife never… I bet their kids don’t…”
What about a leader of an organization? We can perceive that they, too, have got it made. “I bet he or she never… I bet their employees never…”
What about a specific friend or person you know? “If my wife was more like his wife… or if my husband was more like her husband… If my son or daughter were just more like…”
Reality Check
Let’s look at reality. Many times, if we knew the truth about the pastor’s life and his family issues, we may decide not to attend church there any longer. If we knew the truth about what’s going on in that business, we would stop following that leader. If we knew the sacrifices our friend makes so their husband or wife “are the way they are,” I’m guessing many of us would not be willing to do what they have done.
Life is tough for everyone, no matter how much you believe or how close you are to God. No matter what you do for a living. No matter how great a leader you are, or how much you know.
None of us are protected from the things of this world. We will all face problems, challenges, difficulties and tragedies. There is nowhere on earth that we can go to hide from this truth.
I heard someone say once, “What if our problems were like shoes, and we all walked up and sat them in front of the room? After seeing the problems others have and are dealing with, most of us would gladly take our same problems back and leave with them.”
So don’t compare your insides with someone else’s outsides. Don’t fool yourself and believe that your problems are bigger than their problems.
